Here's a question worth asking: when someone types "Who's a good [your type of business] in Georgetown?" into AI, does your name come up?

More and more customers are skipping the Google results page and asking AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude for a recommendation instead. And unlike Google, which shows pages of links, AI usually names just three to five businesses. If you're not one of them, that customer may never know you exist. And Google is using AI to offer AI summaries, which focuses on your Google Business Profile and other Google centric content. 

The good news: what gets you recommended isn't technical wizardry. It's mostly the basics (your reviews, your business listings, and a website that clearly says what you do) done in a way AI can read and trust. Small local businesses can actually beat the big national chains here.
